In The Outcast of 19 Schuyler Place Margaret Rose Kane is not understood by anyone at her new camp. She is considered the 'outcast' of the camp. She not only feels left out but lonely. The girls in her cabin have been best friends forever. They are not ready to bring another new 'weird' girl into their group. The other girl in her cabin is also new. She quickly became friends with the other six girls in the group. "I prefer not to..." is Margaret's favorite four words. The camp director thinks that Margaret is weird and has problems because she does not want to participate in camp activities or socialize with the others. All Margaret says when she's asked to do something is "I prefer not to...". Some people may say that Margaret is weird, some may say she has problems, some may even say that she just doesn't belong. But the truth is she unique and different, and guess what, she just prefers not to.
Margaret is just a girl who likes to be alone. She does not care about being popular or what most other girls care about. She is different and that is why she is unique. She is artistic and creative but nobody realizes that because they do not give her a chance. In camp she had a hard time because her cabin mates did not like her and they wanted to get rid of her. The girls wanted people to think she was weird and had something wrong with her. The girls in her cabin even got the camp director, nurse and cabin director to think that their was something wrong with Margaret. Margaret felt lonely and she had nobody in that short period of time that she was in camp.
I believe that if the girls in Margaret's cabin were not as mean to Margaret she would have stayed in cabin and she would have had many friends. The conflict was that the girls did not accept Margaret. They tried to embarrass Margaret through out her time in camp. One thing that the did was spill stuff on her bed and say that she wet her bed. Another thing they did was that they put puke on the ladder of Margaret's bunk and say that she threw up. They also stuffed one of Margaret's t-shirts in the shower trains and then they blamed it on her. Through out that time they tried to get Margaret and trouble and they tried to embarrass her. I believe that it was their fault that Margaret wanted to leave because Margaret was the one who wanted to go to camp and she chose that camp based on the activities and how fun it had looked in the brochure.
Another conflict was that nobody wanted to be friends with Margaret. Friend are important but unfortunately Margaret was unable to make any friends at that camp. I believe that if Margaret did have any friends she would have stayed in camp. Because Margaret did not have any friends she was very lonely in camp and that is why she decided to leave camp.
Also, the directors and leaders of the camp did not like Margaret and thought that there was something wrong with her. For example the nurse told the director that Margaret had problems. The camp director was the one who kept giving Margaret talks and she was the one who sent Margaret to the nurse. The cabin director also laughed at Margaret and told people about what she thought Margaret had done, but really her cabin mates had done. I believe that the leaders and directors of the camp were not nice to Margaret and did not even give her a chance.
In conclusion, I think that everyone was unfair and did not give Margaret a chance. I believe that they were acting very immature. I think that one lesson that Margaret had learned in camp was that sometimes people are going to be mean but just move on when they are and forget that is happened. This book can relate to the world because in the world many people are thought of as 'weird' of 'abnormal' and many other words, but the truth is they are not, they are just unique and different in their own special way.
