Blogpost #17: The People of Sparks

In the book, The People of Sparks, Doon and Lina brought the citizens of Ember out of Ember and up to the town of Sparks.  Ember was located underground and Sparks was located above ground.  The people of Sparks allowed the people of Ember to move into their village.

The setting right now is above ground, in the town of Sparks.  The town of Sparks is a village, it is one of the few villages that are not destroyed and still have people living in it.  The author, Jeanne DuPrau, doesn't really describe the setting.  Since the people of Sparks grow most of their food I picture the town of Sparks to have lots of plants, flowers, trees, etc.

Even though Ember is not the main setting, it is still a setting.  Ember is underground and the light comes from electricity.  I imagine Ember to be really dark, scary, and kind of mysterious.  I picture it is a sad place, where people are different because they grew up underground, never seeing sunlight or the ocean.   I also think that Ember is colorless, underground, there are not many colors, mostly earth toned colors.

I think that I would rather live in the town of Sparks.  Even though Sparks is a little bit more dangerous because other people outside of the town. I wouldn't want to live in Ember because the electricity was starting to weaken and soon all of the lights would have turned off forever.  The only pros of living in Ember would be it would be safer and there may still be some food left.  The cons would be no power, stuck underground forever.  The pros of living in Sparks would be people would be able to live with and near others, there is food, water, shelters.  The cons would be it could be dangerous and people could get hurt.

I think that this is a very interesting book.  It deals a lot with trust and getting to know new people.  I think that it is a great book to read.  I really enjoy reading the series.  This is the second book out of four books.  I think that the city of ember series is very interesting and adventurous.  I really enjoy reading this book.
